it has become evident to me that hip hop is becoming somewhat of a fad. much like the "import racing" scene had in the past. and even more so with movies like 8mile and the 50cents movie (whatever its called).
even the "underground" is in its own sense a fad now. with a first hand view, i can tell you that the youth of today are greatly influenced by whatever enters their minds. the underground scene perceives whoever to be within it, to be "real hip hop". but is that so...? does just being "underground" really define what true hip hop is?
is their really a ways to "dress hip hop"? to "look hip hop"?
i was always taught that one can only simply live the hip hop culture. i mean shure there is a certain fashion within hip hop but does wearing the brands make you a real head?
i believe that the hip hop culture is becoming more and more tainted as it ceases to be a culture within the youth and just another "fad"... this is why i stress the issue of education to the youth
am i wrong in any sense?

It isn't "becoming" a fad. To me, Hip Hop, as well as many other things in life, have always been a fad. The same thing happened in the generations before me. The same trendiness and craze happened during my generation. People a bit younger than me have talked about the exact same issues. And now people of your generation are noticing the same things we have gone through. It isn't anything new with Hip Hop or any other ideology in life. Going back in time; joining the Nazi party to serve Hitler surely was a fad. People following Jesus and Christianity was also and currently is a type of a fad. Cavemen getting the idea to club cavewomen was also another fad. Haha. Okay, that's enough.
But regardless of how people become involved with a certain trend or culture, even if he or she was just following the masses, the important thing is to become educated about what is really going on within that trend.

MAN! to me hip hop was my life.. i would seriously wake up and all i wanted to do was make music, find the next show, pick up the latest CD or single. i love this shit!. it was something that i felt like i belong to. even when i was just listening to the mainstream hip hop i knew what was real and what was fake.. rygar knows.. we are in the same generation.. i remember dumb fools wearing hoodies and parkas and nautica this and tommy that and cyber tech in the middle of the fucking summer ( in the 909 ) cuz they thought they were hard. im sorry. to me fashion dictates jack shit in hip hop.. i have seen some nerdy looking kids with dope raps. and ive seen some kats u think look hard as fuck and they dont even know the roots to hip hop. to me its not a fad, ,i think that pop culture dilutes the realness of hip hops culture. clothes are a fad, hairs styles are a fad. i mean look now people that are like 30 and old still listen to hiphop.. to me.. i think we just need to keep it real, and by keeping it real means to me... that we must express hip hop and enjoy the culture and bring the youth in to what we love. the real heads.. we must cater to them. think about it.. way back in the day like 94 did u knwo any asian guys that rap? shiet. i remember if you werent black at the blow'd u'd get served up. now there are multicultural groups like the visionaries, that broke that fine line. i think we have to educate the population about the culture and then we will develop the following and destroy the bandwagon. but then again.. there are those who jump to whats cool next.. what if underground country music was the hardest shit on the planet.. who would sell out? my achey brakey heart.... jeff wwwweeeezie. ;D

You know it's a fad when cats are putting out 5 "albums" in 3 months under different names and all of the music is wack. Take your time and make some quality music. Don't jump the gun and throw music out and demand respect.

Yeah, music should always be about quality, not quantity. If 5 dope albums were created in 5 days, I wouldn't give a shiz. Just as long as they were dope.
